Privacy Policy
Wut is a Chrome extension that analyzes web pages using AI to help you understand what a service is and whether it's right for you. This policy explains what data is involved, where it goes, and what we do (and don't do) with it.
1. Data We Collect
API Keys
Your AI service API keys (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google) are stored exclusively in chrome.storage.local on your device. They are never transmitted to any Wut-operated server, because no such server exists.
Page URL and Body Text
When you trigger an analysis, the current page's URL and extracted body text are sent to the AI service API you have selected (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google). This data is used solely to generate the analysis result. It is not stored by Wut beyond the local cache described below.
Usage Records (Local Only)
The following information is stored locally on your device:
- Domain of the analyzed page
- AI model used
- Token counts
- Timestamp of analysis
This data never leaves your device.
2. Data Transmission
Data is transmitted only in the following cases:

Wut-operated servers: None. No data is ever sent to any server owned or operated by Wut.

3. Data Storage
All data is stored in chrome.storage.local on your device:
- API keys — Stored locally. Never transmitted to Wut.
- Analysis cache — Expires automatically after 24 hours.
- User preferences — Selected AI model, language preference.
When you uninstall the extension, all data is deleted from your device automatically.
4. Third-Party Sharing
Wut does not share your data with any third party, with one exception: the page URL and body text are sent to the AI service you selected, only when you explicitly trigger an analysis.
Wut does not use:
- Advertising networks
- Analytics services
- Tracking or fingerprinting services
- Cookies of any kind
5. Permissions Explained
activeTab — Read the content of the current tab when you open the Wut popup. Does not monitor browsing in the background.
storage — Save API keys, analysis cache, and preferences locally on your device.
scripting — Inject a script to extract page text for analysis. Runs only when you trigger an analysis.
6. Children's Privacy
Wut is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised "Last Updated" date.
